POINT PLEASANT— A wind-driven fire damaged two homes in Point Pleasant Borough on Thursday afternoon, bringing dozens of emergency responders to the scene as crews battled flames, heat and downed power lines.
The Point Pleasant Borough Fire Department was called at about 2:45 p.m. on June 18 to the area of Sunrise Avenue and Shady Glenn Avenue for a reported structure fire. Deputy Chief 7510 arrived within minutes and called for a second alarm after finding two homes heavily involved in fire and live power lines down across the street.
Chief 7500 arrived soon after and took command of the scene.
Firefighters began attacking the flames while also protecting nearby homes from the spreading fire. Because of strong winds and high heat, the fire was upgraded to a third alarm, bringing additional firefighters, equipment and support agencies to the neighborhood.
Officials said the fire was contained to the two homes. No injuries were reported.
Fire crews remained at the scene for about 3 1/2 hours. The scene was later turned over to the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department for an investigation.
The Point Pleasant Borough Fire Department said its thoughts are with the families affected by the fire.
